Making good progress on the County Line quilt pattern. I’ve been working on getting the blocks together. Once the blocks in the rows are sewn together, a piece of black sashing will be sewn between the rows. The inner border will be more of the black sashing. Haven’t quite decided yet what I’ll be doing for the outer border.

I have all of the pieces cut for the County Line quilt pattern by Mountainpeek Creations. I have the first half of them laid out on the design wall and have started sewing the pieces together. I have the first two blocks completed.

Lots happening in the sewing room. I cleaned. Big wahoo! It seems so spacious without all of the stuff laying around.
I finished the crosshatching on the sampler quilt and finished sewing the binding on. I washed and dried which puts that nice crinkly look to it. This quilt is for my youngest. The camera makes the medium blue shades seem brighter than what they actually are.
While cleaning, I had 2 projects laying around for weeks. They are finished now. I had this second Halloween placemat that needed binding which I hadn’t finished because I needed to cut a few strips of fabric. The tree skirt had everything finished except the binding in the center of the skirt. I’d been putting it off because I couldn’t quite decide how to tackle it. I tried sewing a gather stitch around the edges of the binding thinking that I could get it to curve around the tight curve. That idea didn’t pan out like I hoped. I remember the tutorial said to use a narrow binding. Obviously, the person that created the tutorial knew what they were doing. It was only me that was confused. I trimmed the binding down to 2″. It isn’t perfect but no one is going to see the center of it anyway.

I had a hard time getting back into a routine after frolicking on the beach with family and friends. Back to reality. Sigh!
I finally made it into the sewing room tonight to start again on the crosshatching. I’m going to get finished yet.

Everyone in our family has been posting the photos from this weekend. This is one of my favorites of my Grandson. This little guy loved the beach. It was so fun to watch the expressions on his face.

Very little accomplished this week. Design wall is still on the cutting table.
Focus was on family and celebrations. I’m so sad that last week went by so quickly!

Last night while watching Birdsong on Masterpiece Theater, I started cutting pieces for a new project. The project hasn’t made it to the design wall yet. The pieces are from an older line called City Girl Holiday. I’m using the pattern County Lines by Mountainpeek Creations.

Still plugging away on the crosshatch stitching for sampler quilt #2. I found a Dritz Soapstone Marking Pencil when I was cleaning through a stack of stuff yesterday. I had completely forgotten that I had it. For some reason, I didn’t think I liked it. But, the pen works great on dark fabrics. It doesn’t work so great on light fabrics. But I like the blue water soluble marking pen for the light fabrics. They work well together.

Added this week: 3 yds
Used this week: 0 yds
Added this year: 92.705 yds
Used this year: 35.75 yds
Stashbusted this year: -56.955 yds
My daughter and I went to a quilt shop in her area and they had FreeSpirit solid fabrics. I haven’t had a chance to try any of their solids. The fabric feels great and I was able to purchase at $6 a yard. I’m going to use it for sashing. I have the fat quarters from City Girl Holiday. I didn’t have enough of the black fabric on hand so this should (in theory) give me everything I need to complete this quilt top.
I also picked up a couple of fat quarters. I watched the free motion dvd by David Taylor. He suggested going around random objects to practice stippling. He suggested going around a fabric that had fruits, cookies, etc to practice sewing circles. So I think these fat quarters should be good practice pieces. If I’ll practice, that is.

I’m stitching cross-hatch lines over most of the top and straight line stitching on the borderss. I saw a picture of a quilt stitched this way and I liked the look. So, I’m giving it a try.
I stitched for about 3 hours tonight. At 10:00 p.m., I decided to call it a day. I laid the quilt out on my cutting table top side down to see how far I got. It felt like I should be almost finished. But in reality, about a quarter of the stitching is complete. But alas, I do have an accomplishment. I finished up this cone of Masterpiece thread.
